I grew up in South Shields, and I still love spending time on the North East coast and walking in the more remote areas of Northumberland. Following school, I read Physics at Christ Church, Oxford, and then worked briefly in both industry and medical physics before undertaking my PhD in Atomic Physics at Durham University. I was fortunate to encounter more than one Nobel Laureate; however, it was the opportunities to teach which I found I enjoyed more than the research. Following a PGCE at Southampton, I worked in two HMC schools on the south coast, before seizing the opportunity to move back to the North, taking on the exciting role of Vice Principal at GSAL 13 months ago. I am thoroughly enjoying exploring, primarily on foot and bicycle with my children, all that Yorkshire has to offer.
